Skid Steer lifting dirt

Options for Construction

There's a big difference between brands of Ground Engaging Tools (GET). If you go with one that doesn't match your machine...or wears out prematurely...you sacrifice a lot more than GET life.

Dozers

Bulldozers
Dozers are called on for a variety of work. Backfilling around foundations and other structures; dressing slopes; cutting V-ditches; piling brush and debris; clearing rubble. Sometimes even rough excavating. Always using the blade. Cat tractor GET keeps that bulldozer blade in good working condition.

Blade Types

Power Angling and Tilt (Standard on D3C, D4C, D3C LGP and D4C LGP) The most versatile of all blades, suited to a variety of site development and general dozing work.

Straight (Available for D3C LGP only.) A good general purpose blade for most dozing applications. Aggressive in penetrating tough material and obtaining fast blade loads.

End Bits

Extended Wear Life (EWL) Thicker than General Duty end bit, the EWL bit lengthens the life of cutting edge corners in highly abrasive conditions. Provides maximum depth of cut relative to the cutting edge.

General Duty Increases cutting edge life in most general dozing applications. Contoured design matches the cutting edge thickness in the bolt hole area. Protective wear area extends beyond the blade corner to provide excellent cutting-edge-to-end-bit wear ratio.

Utility End Bits Are an economical alternative for jobs where face wear is a continuing problem. Utility Bits for D7-D11 dozers are through-hardened DH-2 steel.

Finish Dozing Matches the depth of cut of the cutting edge and protects the blade corners in low impact, low abrasion materials. Recommended for finish and semi-finish dozing.

Cutting Edges

Multi-section cutting edges come in optional thicknesses. They're made of tough, tempered DH-2 steel. Each section can be switched, propellered or replaced individually for maximum wear life.

Choice of thicknesses affords you the right balance of edge life and production. In general dozing, where impact and abrasion are low, the thinner edge provides the most economical service. Thicker edges provide added strength and wear material for abrasive or high impact applications.

Excavators

Excavators are generally production machines...judged in yards of material moved or feet of trench completed. So they need to generate maximum output. Cat GET helps them get it.

All Cat excavator buckets come with two-strap weld-on adapters and cutting edges. The adapters are designed especially for excavators, but accept the same tips used on Cat loader buckets.

Bulk section base edges without adapters, and some Specialty Buckets are also available, see your Cat Dealer for details.

Bucket Cutting Edge
One cutting edge assembly (cutting edge with weld-on adapters) is available for each bucket style and width. The weld-on adapters accept the same tips used on Caterpillar loaders. Bulk section base edges without adapters are also available.

Side-Cutters
All trenching buckets should be equipped with side-cutters, Side-cutters improve bucket penetration, increase bucket capacity, and protect bucket side plates. They can also increase the bucket's cutting width. There are four side-cutter designs available:

Strike-off - Protects the bucket side plates and improves penetration.

One-piece Blade Type - Is recommended for use in most soil conditions.

Combination Blade Type - Is recommended for light to moderate digging conditions.

Tooth Type - Is recommended to improve penetration in severe applications. It consists of a replaceable tip, pinned to a side mounted adapter, accepting the same tips used on the cutting edge adapters.

Blade Type 2 - Suitable for use in most soil conditions. Widens bite width and provides good protection to bucket sides.

Loaders & Integrated Toolcarriers

You buy these machines for the way they handle a bucket. So it makes sense to arm that bucket with exactly the right GET. With these Cat options, you can.

Bolt-on edges are available to provide extra base edge protection when working in loose, abrasive materials. Quick and easy to replace; they can be propellered for a second wear life.

Corner Guard System

Bucket corners are the most prone to wear and fail prematurely. You can combat this by installing an adapter and tip in each corner of the bucket. This bolt-on system uses left-and right-corner adapters and two-strap bolt-on adapters. In work where shock and abrasion are not a problem, the Cat Corner Guard System can increase edge and corner life up to 50% over other bolt-on tooth systems.

Bolt-on Edge Segments bolt directly to the bottom of a base edge to prevent the edge from scalloping between the teeth. They also share part of the wear forces normally absorbed by tips and adapters. And they leave a cleaner work surface. Bolt-on edge segments are available for all sizes of Corner Guard System base edges.

Maintenance Hints for Bucket Tips

Proper care can add substantially to the performance and life of bucket tips. You benefit in two ways: lower long-term operating costs, and higher production every hour along the way. There's nothing magic about these, and they're easy to remember. But they do pay off.

  • Check for wear
  • Rotate bucket tips
  • Turn tips over
  • Don't go beyond wear limits
  • Reuse pins and retainers
