National plant hire specialist, Charles Wilson, has invested in 40 new Cat® 308E2 Excavators, purchased from Caterpillar dealer Finning UK & Ireland.
Charles Wilson, established in 1979, remains a privately owned rental business, but over the past thirty years the company has expanded its operations to become a leading national plant hire specialist. Following an initial guaranteed order of 40 Cat 308E2s, all units are due to be delivered throughout 2017, with further potential for more orders as the year progresses.

We were particularly impressed with the VisionLink technology; as the industry moves towards smarter, connected systems, we have recognised the value that effective machine monitoring has on the overall productivity and efficiency of our customer’s sites.”
One of the key features of the Cat 308E2 is the Swing Boom, which allows for more versatile movements up to 60 degrees both left and right. The Compact Radius of the machine allows the operator to work in more confined spaces, and with the Rear View Camera 360 degree visibility is achieved. The Power on Demand feature ensures optimum performance and fuel efficiency by adjusting to the task at hand, delivering power when you need it, making it overall a cost effective solution.
Charles Wilson has also chosen to add VisionLink technology, which is an entire fleet management system monitored remotely by Finning’s Finsight engineers. This technology will track how each machine is performing by monitoring idle time, fuel efficiency and the overall condition of equipment.
