Finning invests in Red Deer operations to support data centre power demand
New Alberta operation expands capacity to deliver prime and backup power solutions across Western Canada.
Finning will be opening a new facility in Red Deer, Alberta that will assemble complete power systems at volume to support Western Canada’s growing data centre developments.
The 113,000 sq ft multiuse facility will house fabrication infrastructure and engineering design experts to build packaged units, shop test, and ship standby and prime power solutions to customers. The operation is expected to begin assembling units later in 2026.
"The amount of power a single data centre requires has reset the scale of our business. A site that once needed a handful of generators now needs ten times that. Finning has packaged power systems since the 1960s, and the Red Deer facility brings that capacity to Western Canada at the volume the market now demands," said Babak Baharikia, Vice President, Power and Energy, Finning Canada.
Packaging within Alberta places us closer to the province's largest projects and central to Western Canada, lowering shipping cost and shortening delivery times. The Red Deer operation strengthens Finning's ability to deliver end-to-end power solutions, from engineering and system integration to equipment packaging and long-term service support.
As the operation expands and adds more packaged units in the field, we are hiring for power generation service roles, including electricians and heavy equipment technicians across Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan.
“This is about getting back into something we’ve done before, but doing it bigger,” said Babak. “It’s exciting for Finning, and it puts us in a great position for where the power market is headed.”
