Surrey, B.C.’s facility sets up new renewable diesel initiative for its service fleet
Finning changed out the conventional diesel for renewable diesel at its Surrey, BC refueling station, marking another step in our energy transition strategy.
- Conventional diesel is refined from fossil fuels like crude oil.
- Renewable diesel is produced from organic matter and biomass, such as corn, canola, soybeans, and recycled waste feedstocks like used cooking oils.
"Before, our service fleet were running out to gas stations. Now they can just pull up, tap their fuel card, refuel on site, and get to where they need to go without an extra stop,” said Ben Sali, Manager of Service Operations in Surrey. “It saves us time and money, and keeps everyone focused on what they do best."
We started the trial late 2025. The Surrey installation serves as proof of concept for broader deployment for other facilities. The goal is to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the use of renewable fuel alternatives, save costs in fuel consumption, and increase operational efficiency. The diesel is provided by 4Refuel.
“This renewable diesel initiative is a part of our broader approach to managing environmental impacts while giving our employees a convenient way to refuel,” explained Thomas Swaczyna, Manager of Sustainability and Energy Strategy. “When we can support lowering emissions and improve efficiency at the same time, that's a win-win in my book."
Conventional diesel replaced with renewable diesel at the fuel tank at Surrey to help reduce our greenhouse gases by using a renewable fuel source for the Finning service vehicle fleet.
Finning is on track to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 40% by 2027 from our 2017 baseline.
