COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 2 x 10-hour days
Target Audience: Technician / Ticketed

This course covers the Caterpillar Diesel Engine Systems and will give the Technician an understanding of how the various Intake, Exhaust, Fuel, Cooling and Lubrication Systems operate. The Technician will gain an understanding of the related components, and basic troubleshooting of the various systems.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility Markings.

PREREQUISITES

Service Information System 2.0 / Electronic Technician (ET, and Diesel Engine Systems (S2), *Must have an active CWS login*

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the engine overview and changes from 3500 series A through E

  • Describe the Cooling system components and flow

  • Describe the Lubrication system components and flow

  • Describe the Fuel system components and flow

  • Describe the Intake and Exhaust system components and flow

  • Describe the engines sensors operation and location

  • Confirm correct engine timing & pinning of the camshafts

  • Removal, install and adjustment of fuel injection components and programming

  • Removal, install and adjustment of top end components (Valve lash adjustment)

  • Practical session on the shop floor with training engine

Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%.
