Finning supplies upgraded Cat® genset to Luton Green Sawmill for improved reliability and efficiency
Finning UK & Ireland, the region’s sole Cat® dealer, has supplied a Cat DE110E2 diesel generator set (genset) to Luton Green Sawmill, replacing one of their existing gensets with a like-for-like solution.
The new genset installation provides Luton Green Sawmill with increased reliability and improved efficiency, ensuring consistent power supply for their critical sawmill operations. This upgrade represents a continuation of Finning’s collaboration with Luton Green Sawmill to maintain optimal power solutions for the facility.
“This genset replacement project demonstrates how updating to newer technology while maintaining the same capacity can deliver significant operational benefits. We worked closely with Luton Green Sawmill to ensure minimal disruption during the transition. We wanted to give them, and all customers, the same service whether they buy one unit or one thousand. The new Cat DE110E2 offers improved fuel efficiency and enhanced reliability compared to the previous model. For industrial operations like sawmills where consistent power is critical, these improvements translate directly into better productivity and reduced operating costs.
Our customer had used the previous genset for around 20,000 hours, which is a fantastic feat in terms of the longevity of the unit. This level of use is testament to the durability of the machine. Luton Green Sawmill will now have peace of mind for another 20,000 hours”.
Karen Bailey, Retail Electric Power Sales Representative at Finning UK & Ireland
The Cat DE110E2 diesel genset produces reliable power with excellent load response characteristics. The upgrade also provides Luton Green Sawmill with access to improved digital monitoring capabilities, allowing for more proactive maintenance planning.
“Maintaining reliable power is essential for our operation. Downtime can significantly impact productivity, so upgrading our power generation equipment was a strategic decision. The replacement process went smoothly, and the new Cat genset will no doubt prove its value through improved performance and reduced fuel consumption. Working with Finning made the transition straightforward, with their team handling everything from initial planning through to commissioning”.
Will Hammond, Sawmill Manager at Luton Green Sawmill
Finning UK & Ireland bought back the existing genset through one of its traders who collected the unit to ensure convenience for Luton Green Sawmill. The contract also included installation of the new unit, and comprehensive commissioning to ensure optimal performance. Finning technical specialists completed all work at the Luton site with careful scheduling to minimise operational impact.
