The new Cat® TH255C telehandler—with a rated load capacity of 5,500 pounds (2 500 kg) and a maximum lift height of 18.33 feet (5 600 mm)—features a powerful, compact design that accommodates both a wide range of work tools and a varied range of applications, resulting in an exceptionally versatile machine. At the center of the TH255C is a new engine available as both a U.S. EPA Tier 4-Final/EU Stage IIIB version and as a U.S. EPA Tier 3/EU Stage IIIA version for less regulated regions, as well as a more powerful hydrostatic drive system for added tractive effort for negotiating difficult terrain.

The TH255C uses a new fuel-efficient, 2.9-liter engine rated at 74-horsepower (55 kW). A new cooling package features a variable-speed, hydraulically driven fan with an available variable-speed reversing feature. The engine pod has been redesigned to accommodate the new engine, including a new exhaust mounting system and a low-profile hood that provides significantly enhanced visibility to the right of the machine.

The hydrostatic transmission in the TH255C incorporates a variable-displacement piston pump and a variable-displacement piston motor, which combine to provide smooth application of power at the wheels with no need for the operator to change gears. The controllability provided by the TH255C’s four-wheel-drive propel system complements its three-mode steering system to allow precise placement of loads. An electronic throttle pedal provides instant engine response and further contributes to overall controllability.

New axles for the TH255C have larger final-reduction hubs and new, larger wheel assemblies that use an eight-lug bolt pattern. The new axles add durability and reliability, as do the addition of boom-section brushes. Additional new features include a redesigned electrical harness and roof-mounted air-conditioning system for models so equipped.

In the operator’s station, a new instrument cluster and dash panel allow at-a-glance monitoring of machine performance, and an intuitive control layout—including a single, electro-hydraulic joystick—promotes operator comfort, efficiency and safety. Properly placed handholds and steps ensure entering and exiting the cab comfortably and safely.

For added versatility, the TH255C is fitted with a standard universal quick coupler that is compatible with many Cat skid steer loader work tools.

Overall cost of ownership for the TH255C is reduced by its easy serviceability, with all routine service points accessible from ground level and daily maintenance limited to fluid-level checks and a walk-around inspection.
