Finning Hosts Caterpillar’s SIF Prevention Summit
November 6, 2025
As a recognized safety leader among global Cat® dealers, Finning Canada is proud to be at the forefront of injury prevention and workplace safety. In September, we had the honour of hosting Caterpillar’s second annual Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Summit to our OEM Reman facility in Edmonton. The event brought together more than 40 safety leaders from Caterpillar, global Cat dealers, customers, and suppliers, all united by a shared commitment of keeping people safe.
The Summit focused on redefining safety, not as a checklist, but as a culture of openness, curiosity, and shared responsibility. Finning Canada President Tim Ferwerda said, “Safety is no longer just the absence of harm, it’s the presence of controls and risk competency,” highlighting how Finning frontline teams now help shape task-specific critical controls for high-risk activities.
Over three days, participants explored innovative technologies, critical controls, and the importance of psychological safety in building trust and learning. Technicians shared how moving from blame to learning fosters honesty and engagement, while leaders discussed how involving employees in risk management drives real, lasting change across the industry.
VP of Global EH&S Frankie Fuchs said, “It’s amazing to have everyone collaborating in one room. My hope is that everyone takes something back to their teams that positively impacts SIF prevention.”
By challenging mindsets, embracing innovation, and supporting each other, we’re shaping a safer future, today and for generations to come.
An attendee leading safety at another North American dealership summed it up best, saying, “This has been an eye-opening experience and I’m leaving with a clear focus on eliminating risk and am excited to share these insights with my team”. Finning’s EH&S Programs Manager Roxanne Clark shared, “This shift empowers an entire generation and we’re shaping the future”.
At Finning, safety is more than a priority, it’s a shared commitment. Together, we’re leading the way to safer workplaces across our industry.
