The main difference between a skid steer loader and a compact track loader (CTL) is the undercarriage and how each machine performs on different ground conditions. Skid steer loaders use wheels, making them faster, more maneuverable, and cost‑effective on hard, paved, or firm surfaces. Compact track loaders use rubber tracks, which distribute weight over a larger area to deliver better traction, flotation, and stability on soft, muddy, snowy, or uneven ground. In short, skid steers excel on solid surfaces and in tight spaces, while CTLs are better suited for challenging terrain and all‑season, off‑road work.

Cat® skid steer loaders and compact track loaders are highly versatile machines used for material handling, digging, grading, lifting, loading, and site cleanup across a wide range of applications. With the ability to run numerous attachments, they are commonly used in construction, landscaping, roadwork, utilities, agriculture, snow removal, demolition, and general property maintenance. Their compact size, strong hydraulic performance, and quick‑change attachments allow crews to handle many tasks efficiently with a single machine, even on tight or confined jobsites.

Cat® skid steer loaders and compact track loaders support a wide range of attachments that dramatically expand their capabilities. Common options include general‑purpose and specialty buckets, pallet forks, grapples, augers, trenchers, cold planers, hydraulic hammers, compactors, brooms, snow blowers, snow blades, tillers, mulchers, and landscape rakes. With high‑flow hydraulics and quick‑coupler systems, these machines can switch attachments quickly, allowing operators to handle digging, lifting, grading, cutting, cleanup, demolition, and winter work efficiently using a single, highly versatile platform.

Cat® skid steer loaders and compact track loaders are widely used in construction, landscaping, utilities, agriculture, road maintenance, snow removal, demolition, and property maintenance. Their compact size, maneuverability, and ability to run a wide range of attachments make them especially valuable for urban job sites, confined spaces, and multi‑task operations, while compact track loaders are also favored in forestry, land clearing, and all‑season work where traction and flotation are critical.
