COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 4 x 10-hour days
Target Audience: Heavy Equipment Technician

Product Course 24 N9Z and 24M B9K/B93 serial number.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility Markings.

PREREQUISITES

Service Information System 2.0 (SIS2) and Electronic Technician (ET) (SIS2/ET), Diesel Engine Systems (S2), Electrical Systems (S4), and Machine Electronic Controls (MEC)

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

• Identify and explain functions of operator controls.

• Comparison, similarities, and differences between 24 and 24M motor Graders

• Engine

        o Identify sensors and describe operation

        o Trace fuel flow and identify /explain operation and function

        o Inlet and exhaust flow

        o Be able to explain how to pin TDC #1, perform valve set and injector timing

        o Explain function and operation of compression brake

        o Explain engine control functions i.e.: derates ,low voltage ,cold engine idle

        o Identify and understand the T4 components related to the C27 engine

• Powertrain

        o Identify power train components

        o Trace oil flow paths

        o Describe operation of lockup torque convertor

        o Explain operation of ECPC transmission and when to perform calibrations

        o Pressure test and perform calibrations

• Hydraulic and Steering Systems

        o Explain function of electrohydraulic valve

        o Understanding of PPPC hydraulic systems

        o Proper set up of variable displacement pump

        o Understanding of the resolver network on the24 and 24M motor grader

        o Ability to understand hydraulic schematic ISO symbols

        o Pressure test and perform calibrations, ie: margin pressure, signal relief, high pressure

• Brake and Fan Systems

        o Identify and explain operation and function of brake/fan system components

        o Explain how to safely service the brake /fan system

        o Ability to test the brake system, properly charge accumulators

• Calibrate and adjust fan speed and margin pressure
