COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 4 x 10-hour days
Target Audience: Ticketed Service Technicians

In this 988 XE course we will discuss the loader hydraulic, steering, braking, and demand fan circuit. All new SR Electric Drive Power train, payload measuring and electrical control, and monitoring systems will also be discussed. All new loader features along with testing and adjusting of these features and systems. This course is for 988 XE with the C18 Tier 4 final engine, engine and emissions will be included in this training course. Customer must supply running machine (988 XE) for duration of the class.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility markings.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After course completion the participant will have the ability to:

  • Locate and identify all the major 988 XE machine components
  • Locate and identify all filters, dipsticks, indicators, fill tubes, drains, and test points.
  • Locate and identify the major components and explain operation of the C18 engine and the Tier 4 Final emissions system
  • Trace the flow of fuel, oil, air, coolant, and Exhaust flow throughout the engine
  • Trace the flow of oil throughout all hydraulic components and explain operation.
  • Understand and be able to test the hydraulic system as how each component corresponds with the entire system.
  • Perform testing and adjusting on the new electronic braking system.
  • Explain operation and perform testing and adjusting on the steering system
  • Locate all controls in the new operator’s station, explain the operation of the new loader features, and understand the correlation between different ECMs on the machine.
  • Identify safety concerns related to the electric drive system
  • Identify major components of the electric drive circuit
  • Trace coolant and oil flows throughout power train system
  • Describe operation of switched reluctance electric drive system
  • Perform testing and adjusting of the electric drive power train system

This course requires successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80% and the presentation of a report of the case study that you have evaluated.
