COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 2 x 10-hour days
Target Audience: Heavy Equipment Technicians (HETs)

This course covers the fundamentals of Air Conditioning Systems and includes the code of practice for the reduction of fluorocarbon refrigerant emissions. Environment Canada and Provincial Ministries in partnership with the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) require all working with refrigerants to complete this course. Once the course has been completed with a pass mark greater than 80% the participants will receive a Certification from the HRAI.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, hard hats and coveralls with reflective stripe.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Course Objectives: After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

• Follow the “Code of Practice for the Reduction of Fluorocarbon Refrigerant Emissions” as laid out by Environment Canada

• Describe the safety concerns related to the different refrigerants

• Describe latent heat of fusion and latent heat of vaporization and how it relates to air conditioning

• Explain how temperature can affect pressures

• Identify different types of air conditioning systems

• Identify components on air conditioning systems and describe their function

• Demonstrate the proper use of the refrigerant recovery tooling

• Demonstrate the proper use of the leak detection tooling

• Explain procedure to determine refrigerant type in system

• Demonstrate proper charging techniques

• Trace refrigerant flow through the air conditioning system

• Trace the control system on the electrical schematic

• Understand the similarities and differences of R1234yf refrigerant

 

Successful completion of a written or online examination with a passing grade of 80%
