COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 1 Day (8 hrs/day)

Target Audience: Customer personnel who perform basic operation and maintenance on standby power generation equipment.

The main purpose of this training is to obtain the basic knowledge of the major components and systems in generator packages. Understand the safe and proper procedures of performing routine maintenance inspections. Understand the basic operation of a generator set.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility Markings.

None.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the various safety hazards associated with a gen set packages.

  • Review the main service and inspection points of a generator.

  • Review the major components of the generator and how it operates.

  • Explain the functions and the operation of the gen set controller.

  • Review the basic requirements to meet CSA C282 standards. 

  • Explain the functions and the operation of an automatic transfer switch.

  • Perform an onsite inspection of a generator package to review maintenance procedures and operation. (if allowable by onsite operations)
