COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 2 x 10-hour days
Target Audience: Heavy Equipment Technicians

Location of components related to the SCR system, operations, and maintenance. Testing and adjusting. Overview of iron changes to C175/3500 T4 engines.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility markings.

PREREQUISITES

- Hydraulic Systems (S1), Diesel Engine Systems (S2), Powertrain Systems (S3), Electrical Systems (S4), and Machine Electronic Controls (MEC)
- T4F Large Mining Truck (DPC course # 52599)
- Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Diesel Exhaust Fluid overview (DPC course #41692)

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Identify and locate the major components of the emissions systems

  • Explain the functions of the various emissions systems on the Tier 4 Final product

  • Identify the functionality of diagnostic tests within Cat ET and perform them while connected to a Tier 4 Final engine during a lab exercise.

  • Navigate SIS Web and demonstrate the use of selected service publications during a lab exercise.

  • Trace the DEF flow throughout the SCR system

  • Troubleshoot the various emissions systems on the Tier 4 Final product during lab exercises.

  • Describe the several SRC system states in ET

  • Understand the engine cylinder cutout idle management strategies

  • Describe DEF composition, safety concerns, storage requirements, and perform a DEF concentration test.

  • Describe the function of the operator warning system and explain the operator inducement strategy.
