COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 4 days (10 hrs/day), or 3 days (10 hrs/day) with no engine/emission system

This course pertains to the CAT D3K2, D4K2, D5K2, and D6K2 track type tractors. The course will discuss the C4.4 and C7.1 diesel engines and their emission systems. Also to be discussed will be the hydraulics, steering, hydrostatic powertrain, electrical control, and new tractor features.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility Markings.

PREREQUISITES

Customer must supply machine for practical portion of class, to be available throughout the class duration.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Course Objectives: After completion of the course the participant should be able to:

  • Locate and identify all the major small track type tractor machine components

  • Locate and identify all filters, dipsticks, indicators, fill tubes, drains, and test points

  • Locate and identify the major components and explain operation of the C4.4 and C7.1 engine’s along with the Tier 4 Final emission system selected. NOTE: 4-day class only

  • Trace the flow of fuel, oil, air, coolant and DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) throughout the engine

  • Trace the flow of oil throughout all hydraulic components and explain operation

  • Understand and be able to test the hydraulic system as how each component corresponds with the entire system

  • Trace the flow of oil as it pertains to the hydrostatic transmission system

  • Perform testing and adjusting on the hydrostatic transmission

  • Locate all controls in the new operator’s station, explain the operation of the new tractor features

  • Understand the correlation between different ECMs on the machine

Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%
