COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 797A/B LMT course discusses the operation of the power train, the steering/fan system, the implement hydraulic system, the cooling system, and the Legacy VIMS Display System™ on the 797A/B LMT. Also discussed is the operation of the controls in the operator compartment, and the location and identification of the major components of the 3524 engine.

PREREQUISITES

CLC/SIS/ET, S1 Hydraulics, S2 Engine Systems, S3 Powertrain, S4 Electrical Systems, MEC. Students must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, hard hats and fire retardant coveralls with reflective stripe.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Locate and identify all of the major 797A/B LMT machine components
  • Locate and identify all filters, dipsticks, indicators, fill tubes, drains and test points
  • Locate and identify the major components of the 3524 engine
  • Trace the flow of fuel through the 3524 engine fuel delivery system
  • Trace the flow of air through the 3524 engine air intake system
  • Trace the flow of coolant through the cooling system of the 797A/B LMT
  • Identify and explain the function/operation of each major component in the E.H. steering/fan hydraulic system
  • Trace the flow of oil through the E.H. steering/fan hydraulic system and explain its operation
  • Identify and explain the function/operation of each major component in the power train system
  • Trace the flow of oil through the power train hydraulic system and explain its operation
  • Explain the function/operation of each major component in the implement hydraulic/E.H Brake system
  • Trace the flow of oil through the implement hydraulic/E.H Brake system and explain its operation
  • Locate and identify all of the major components in the Legacy VIMS Display System™; and explain the function of each component in the Legacy VIMS Display System™ and explain the system's basic operation at machine start-up

    Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%
