Taking Pride in What We Do

When you’re on Finning’s operations team, you’re out there on the ground servicing customers who rely on you to keep their businesses going. You know heavy equipment and love solving problems for customers. Most importantly, you have a passion for Cat equipment, the best of the best of heavy equipment, and you get to play with it every day!

We take training seriously. Our technicians have exceptional training and access to extensive learning opportunities so they are well positioned to serve their customers. When you’re on the job, it’s good to know you have the support you need to successfully solve your customers’ issues! Plus, you’re always learning, developing your skills, and increasing your knowledge so you can move forward in your career.

Grow Your Career

You might love being a mechanic today, but what if it starts to feel boring? Not a problem. We encourage people to make their careers whatever they want them to be. There are many places to go at Finning, and some people have had seven or eight careers, without ever having to leave the company.

In addition, you have the option of moving to other locations if you wish. Try somewhere new or move back to your hometown. There’s so much for you to explore.

The Right Fit

Our mechanics, electricians, welders, supervisors, and customer service advisors love serving customers and are focused on results. They’re also patient, taking the time to make sure they are making the right decision, and if they have a great idea, they make sure others consider it.

Meet Our People

Dallas Haugan, Branch Manager

One word that describes my Finning career: Exciting

"The learning curve has been exciting. We work in a very dynamic environment and the market is always changing. We constantly have to find ways to match the marketplace and to be competitive.”

In 2006, Dallas joined our intern program as an Operations intern. He’d known of Finning’s reputation his entire life and, having recently completed a degree in commerce, he knew the company would be a good fit for him—and he’d be a good fit for us.

Dallas is now responsible for the safety and financial results of our Red Deer branch. His job is diverse and includes problem solving, mentoring, setting the vision for the branch, and building a positive culture.

"My father was in the logging industry and he and everyone else we knew thought very highly of Finning. It’s known as a reputable company with a lot of integrity. If it’s important to have pride in where you work, this is the place to be.”

Melissa Schmidt, Customer Service Manager

One word that describes my Finning career: Progressive

“Every time someone asked me if I wanted to go to a conference, meet a customer, get some training, I said yes and then I’d capitalize on that when the time was right. So many people here invested in me, every step of the way.”

It’s now Melissa’s job to ensure repairs are executed in a way that drives customer engagement, satisfaction, and loyalty. She works directly with other employees and our customers, coordinating all efforts to create a great customer experience.

Melissa joined us in 1999, and helped Finning build an in-house customer support centre. After succeeding in that role, she went on to have a varied career, with 14 titles so far.

“I worked for an answering service and Finning outsourced to us and other companies. We had this idea for Finning to build its own service and after discussing it with my contact here, the next thing I knew I was hired to help build the customer support centre.”

Jeff Scribner, Regional Service Excellence Manager, Mining Services

One word that describes my Finning career: Fulfilling

“My career here has been satisfying because I’ve done almost everything I wanted to do. I’ve learned so much, and I continue to learn, and it has afforded me the opportunity to provide my family with a good living and with stability.”

Joining Finning right out of high school, Jeff wanted to work for an industry leader representing the best heavy equipment brand. Over his 35-year career here, he’s held numerous roles, most recently regional operations manager, corporate service operations manager, and director of corporate services; lived in different places, such as Inuvik and Whitehorse; and serviced various industries, like forestry and power systems.

In his current role, Jeff coaches on the service process and supports service operations, providing an objective lens to help us see opportunities for better meeting our customers needs.

“What I like about working at Finning is our customers and the freedom we have to generate improvements when we’re working for our customers.”
