Caterpillar’s 2016 press launch in Malaga saw a focus on technology; visitors were exposed to Grade Assist, VisionLink, Caterpillar Production Management, and much more…
Read and watch how the launch unfolded with key announcements from the Caterpillar team, including Paolo Fellin, Vice President of Global Construction & Infrastructure, and George Taylor, Vice President of Marketing & Digital.
Jean Poirier: Profiting from the integration of technology
Operating in the north east of France, Jean Poirier uses a range of connected Caterpillar equipment with the AccuGrade system to improve productivity and profitability. His experience on a 100,000 square metre project, which involved the removal of 170,000 cubic metres of earth, used a completely connected fleet to ensure the project ran smoother and was completed to a high standard.
Winning complex projects using 3D grading
The business also works with vineyards; recently completing a 20,000 square metre project using connected machines and 3D technology to re-profile a site. By being able to show the customer the 3D model for the site before the project starts, the business has been able to secure more of these lucrative projects; they’ve completed jobs faster, and won more business, ultimately becoming more profitable. – For more information on the business, visit www.jean-poirier.com

Redbird drone and technology set to change industry
Combining drone data with machine data will be the future of productivity, and will give a customer an overall understanding of the cost per tonne per litre of each operation.
Emmanuel de Maistre, co-founder of Redbird, a leading civil UAV operator company: Affordability of commercial drones will see an exponential collection of data in the construction and plant sector. Processing this data will be the key to delivering higher levels of productivity.
Everything from bench heights in quarries, and haul road lengths and widths can be viewed over time from the cloud using data from drones. This will revolutionise productivity and heath and safety onsite.
Redbird’s cloud platform aims to become the ‘Google maps’ for the construction, quarrying and mining sectors.
The Road to Autonomy
There are 400,000 Caterpillar machines connected across the world, all sharing data that helps Caterpillar and dealers to better support each unit.

George Taylor: New solutions and models will change the industry
George Taylor, Vice President of Marketing & Digital: “We are connecting customers with over 30,000 assets, from lighting towers to buckets. We will see job site solutions hit $1bn in the very near future.”
Peer to Peer Machine rental – is it the future?
Yard Club (supported by Caterpillar) is an Airbnb style peer to peer business for machine rental, supported in the US for machines that are not being used and can therefore be rented out – potentially a new way of working in the industry. For more information, click the link here.
New Customer focused solutions
Lower cost technology will help to connect more customers and make the process of benefitting from data led solutions easier.
Big data analytics will be critical in supporting a new customer led focus. The acquisition of the ‘uptake’ business will support higher levels of preventative maintenance. For more information, see here.
Paolo Fellin – Technology announcements
Paolo Fellin announces the reduction in excavator time of up to 45 per cent, with the new Cat 323FL using Cat Grade with assist technology.
New technology for road building is set to deliver 31 per cent less man hours, 34 per cent less equipment hours, a 46 per cent reduction of project hours, 37 per cent less fuel consumption and a major reduction in carbon emissions.
New Equipment
Paolo Fellin introduces range of new equipment for 2016:
New Dozers with new technology
New excavators featuring Cat Grade with Assist
New general construction wheel loader range
See what Anders Thornsen, technology application specialist at EAME talks about the Cat 323E, and how the Assist technology ensures the machine does not go below the grade already set. The machine will automatically lift the boom and adjust the bucket.
Kevin Flynn a demonstrator instructor at the Caterpillar Malaga training facility talks about the D6N and its new technology: slope assist.
